Brighton Beach
Combined-Cycle Generation Project
ATCO Power and Ontario Power Generation
Inc. (OPGI) have partnered to develop and operate gas combined-cycle power plant located
in the City of Windsor. The plant is capable of generating 580 megawatts
of electricity.
This environmentally progressive facility consists of two state-of-the-art gas turbines and a single steam turbine to achieve high efficiency and low emissions in the production of electricity. The combined-cycle process uses the waste heat from the gas turbines to generate steam to run the steam turbine, which significantly increases the efficiency of power production.
The Brighton Beach facility is located on the former J. Clark Keith Generating Station
site which ceased operation in 1984 and was demolished in 1997.
Electricity produced at the plant is controlled and marketed by Coral Energy Canada Inc., an independent power marketer and a member of the global Shell Trading network. Coral provides
the natural gas required by the plant.
The plant was commissioned in July
of 2004.
