Sturgeon
Generating Plant
The Sturgeon Generating Plant is located near Valleyview about 400
kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
Sturgeon Unit 2 was the first industrial gas turbine in Canada. These
units have accumulated significant operating hours over many years of base
load operation.
Today the Sturgeon units are infrequently operated primarily for system
support and to meet peak load demands.

The Sturgeon Generating Station is fuelled by natural gas. |

Highlights

- Unit 1 installed and commissioned at Sturgeon in 1957.
- Unit 2 installed and commissioned at Vermillion in 1954 and
relocated to Sturgeon in 1961.
