Environmental Awareness

As well as using valuable fuel resources as efficiently as possible, the cogeneration station has several features to ensure a minimal environmental impact.

Sophisticated emission controls keep levels of pollutants, such as oxides of nitrogen, to a minimum.

Emissions of greenhouse gases are only about one third of a similarly sized coal-fired station.

Gas burns more cleanly than other fossil fuels so when the plant is operating no oxides of sulphur are produced.

The power station operates quietly due to the extensive use of noise control technology.

SaskWater will supply cooling water from the South Saskatchewan River. The water usage is less than 0.1% of flow from the South Saskatchewan River.

The power station uses a closed-loop cooling system with cooling towers.
