Heathrow Cogeneration Plant

In 1995, ATCO Power and EDF Energy plc (formerly London Electricity plc) through their joint venture company Thames Valley Power, purchased an existing combined heat and power plant at London’s Heathrow Airport.

The plant, located at Heathrow’s cargo area, consists of a 14-megawatt gas turbine and 40 megawatts of heat recovery and fired boiler capacity. In late 2006, the plant also began to supply heat to the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport.

Under a long-term agreement, BAA Ltd. purchases the Heathrow plant’s energy output. The plant is operated by Thames Valley Power.
