McMahon Cogeneration Plant

The McMahon Cogeneration Plant, located near Taylor in northeast British Columbia, provides 120 megawatts to British Columbia’s electric grid and steam to a gas processing plant owned by Spectra Energy. Spectra Energy and ATCO Power each have a 50% ownership in the McMahon plant.

The joint venture was developed in response to a competitive Request for Proposal by BC Hydro to supply the B.C. grid with 150 megawatts from independent power sources.

A long-term power sales agreement was also created with BC Hydro and the joint venture entered into two long-term natural gas supply contracts.
