What is Fly Ash?

Fly ash is a by-product of thermal combustion in coal-fired power generating stations.  This very fine particulate is removed from the combustion exhaust flue gasses by Electrostatic Precipitators (ESP).  Baghouse dust collector systems can also be used to collect fly ash.

How does Fly Ash help the environment?

Fly ash, as a supplementary cementing material, displaces Portland cement thus reducing CO2 emissions.

Industrial and Environmental Benefits of Fly Ash:

  • Enhances concrete performance and qualities
  • Improves cement-based construction materials
  • Mitigates environmental impact
  • For every metric tonne of cement displaced by fly ash, approximately one tonne less of CO2 is released into the atmosphere
  • Designated as a supplementary cementing material by the Canadian Standards Association
